"Ascending Dragon"
This is a picture I took of Namego Valley, deep in the mountains of Nara Prefecture. This place is located in a very remote location and is called one of the most beautiful spots in Japan by those in the know. There are deciduous forests along the dark green coniferous mountain ridges, and during the fall foliage season, the scenery looks like a dragon ascending to the heavens. This view, which appears quietly only during the few days of the best-conditioned fall season every year, is truly a beautiful art created by nature.

Wine container in the form of a bird
Middle Eastern Zhou Dynasty ca. 500-450 BCE
State of Jin, Houma foundry
“Shaped like a bird of prey, this cleverly engineered container held liquids, most probably a grain-based alcohol. Although parts of this vessel resemble an actual bird, the designer created an imaginary being that rewards closer looking. On the surface, natural textures of feathers and skills are combined with abstract interlaced patterns. When the ‘bird’ stands on its feet, it is difficult to see where the body and lid join at the neck. A hidden hinge allows the beak to open as a spout. A nobleman evidently owned this object, since the back of the creatures head is inscribed in gold ‘a gentleman’s esteemed bird.’”
The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in Greece is a remarkable testament to ancient Greek artistic prowess and classical architecture. Built in the 4th century BCE, this meticulously designed amphitheater features exceptional acoustics, allowing even faint whispers to be heard from the highest seats. It was primarily used for Greek tragedies and comedies, highlighting the cultural significance of theater in ancient times.
